Is Qeepsake safe? What its own pages say about privacy
A private journal by design — nothing is shared unless you add a contributor or a recap-email recipient. SSL in transit, staff who can open a journal for support, a Tinybeans privacy policy that allows personalised advertising, and a label listing usage data used to track you.
Safe from strangers: yes — a journal is private to its account, and the only way anyone else sees it is as a contributor you add or a recap-email recipient you name. Secure against the company: no; SSL in transit, and Qeepsake itself says staff can open a journal for support or print checks. Legit: on the App Store since 2018 with 15,000 ratings, “As seen on ABC’s Shark Tank”, and part of Tinybeans since 2026.
Who can see the journal
You. A Family Contributor — “Adding Family Contributors is exclusively a Qeepsake Premium feature” — who gets their own prompts and posts into the same journal. And anyone you add to the Monday recap email, which carries “the 10 most recent entries saved from the previous week” with videos as animated GIFs, “so your friends and family can get a nice preview of your video without sacrificing your family’s privacy and security”. Qeepsake’s own privacy tips: use a nickname for the child, your initials for the account, and an email address without your name.
What Qeepsake says about security and AI
“Qeepsake uses 256-bit SSL encryption, which means your interaction with Qeepsake through texts, the app, or website is completely private and secure.” That describes the connection, not the storage: “all Tinybeans staff members who have access to journal information have passed a criminal background check”, and “The only reasons a team member would access a family’s journal is for troubleshooting an issue or to ensure the printed quality of Qeepsake Books”. Nothing on the pages we checked mentions AI or face recognition on the photos, either way.
Ads, tracking and the label
The pricing and help pages don’t say whether the app shows ads. The privacy policy — Tinybeans USA Ltd’s, since the acquisition — says the company may “develop and display personalized content and advertising tailored to your interests, location, and more”, that its applications “may display a third-party hosted ‘offer wall’”, and that it does “not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising purposes”. The App Store label lists Usage Data under “Data Used to Track You”, and purchase history, email, name, phone number, photos and identifiers as linked to you, for purposes that include the developer’s advertising or marketing.
The files
50 or 100 photo uploads a month depending on the plan, one-minute videos on Premium, resolution not stated. Export is from Account Settings on the website; the format isn’t stated. Entries stay readable on the free Lite tier after you cancel, though Qeepsake says it deactivates inactive free accounts with notice and holds them for a year.

Does Qeepsake sell your journal?
