Is Keepr Circle safe? What its own pages say about privacy
No ads, no ad tracking, no AI training, and an unusually candid security page. Encrypted in transit and at rest rather than end to end, with Keepr's own image models indexing photos for search unless you switch that off.
Safe from strangers: yes — circles are invite-only, links can expire or be revoked, and you can see who has viewed an album. Secure against the company: no, and Keepr says so plainly: “Encrypted in transit and at rest”, not end to end. Legit: a small company that publishes a security page saying what it does and doesn’t have, including no certification and no penetration test, and that names the researcher who reported a session bug and the week it was fixed.
Who can see the photos
Only the people you invite, per circle, with controls over who views, adds and downloads. A shared link opens with no app and no account; you can set it to expire, revoke it in one tap, and see who has viewed.
What Keepr says about encryption and its AI
“Encrypted in transit and at rest” on the pricing page. On the security page: media “is stored in object storage and delivered through controlled access paths”, and “Keepr Circle runs its own image models on its own servers for search and duplicate detection — never a third-party AI service, and nothing is used to train any model. There is no face recognition.” Indexing can be switched off and the index deleted.
Ads, tracking and the label
“No ads · No ad tracking · Never used to train AI”, and “Keepr is paid for by subscriptions, which is the whole of it.” There was no iPhone app on the site when we checked, so there is no App Store label to read; the Android app is on Google Play.
The files
Photos are stored “optimised for browsing — up to 1920 pixels on the long edge — and video at 720p, on every plan”, by the help centre’s account; the untouched original is kept alongside only on plans of 500 GB and above, for photos you choose and never for video, whatever the comparison page’s “Original quality, always” says. You can “download your photos whenever you want, and delete the account in one click”, with a 30-day grace period; the security page says deletion queues the stored files for removal, not just the database rows.

Private from strangers: yes. Private from Keepr: no, and it doesn’t claim to be — its servers index the photos unless you turn that off. Ads and tracking: none. The privacy ranking sets this beside the other thirteen apps.

There's no cap on how many you can add at once and no limit on how long a video can be — a longer video simply uses more of your storage … A five-second clip and a forty-minute school concert are both fine; the long one simply uses more of your storage … Photos are optimised for browsing at up to 1920px, video at 720p.

Keepr has no limit on video length, no cap on how many photos you can upload at once, and no limit on albums, circles or photos per album — storage is the only real ceiling.

Is Keepr Circle end-to-end encrypted?
No, and it says so: ‘Encrypted in transit and at rest’. Its security page adds that media ‘is stored in object storage and delivered through controlled access paths’ and that Keepr’s own image models index photos for search on its servers — which requires the servers to read them.
