FamilyAlbum free vs Premium (2026): what $59 a year changes, and what it doesn't
Premium Family removes the third-party ads, lifts videos from two minutes to ten, and lets you upload from a computer, for everyone in the album. It does not stop the resizing, change the tracking label, or give the company any less access to the photos.
In short: Pay for FamilyAlbum if the ads or the two-minute video limit are what bother you: $59 a year fixes both for the whole album, and a first month is free. Don't pay expecting the originals — uploads and downloads are resized on every plan — or a different privacy position; the label and the company's access to photos don't change.

What the money changes
Two things, plainly stated on the plans page: “No Third-Party Ads”, and “upload videos up to 10 minutes long”. A third, from the help centre: uploading from a computer is a Premium feature. Premium Family covers every member of the album, so the relatives stop seeing ads too.
What the money doesn’t change
The resizing. FamilyAlbum says uploads are “slightly resized” and that downloads are the resized versions; nothing on the plans page says Premium stores the original. The privacy position is unchanged as well: encryption in transit, authorised staff access for support, and an App Store label that lists identifiers used to track you, all of which apply to the app rather than the plan.
Who should pay
Families who like FamilyAlbum and want the ads gone and longer videos, for $59 a year. Families who want the originals kept should keep them on the phone whichever plan they choose, or compare the alternatives.
